Press: “Wait a second”
Obrador: “?!?!”
Press: “Isn’t your energy secretary a nationalist crazy person?”
Obrador (softly): “Erm, no....”

What if US or Saudi based oil giants are purposely causing this whole ordeal either by paying cartels to steal gas or by influencing the Mexican government in an attempt to get the US to buy more oil from them instead of mexico which has historically been the majority source of US oil imports. also IIRC Mexico always decreases oil export to the US during winter but its been a long time since I took International Relations and this is obviously different

Nice, although it would have been funny if his driving holiday turned into a walking holiday.

Well... as far as I know, we import most of our gasoline, either from the US or Saudi Arabia, so we hold a good relationship with both. Despite being a major oil exporter, Mexico is not affiliated with OPEC.
Typically we don’t get into much trouble, Mexican oil is very bad... so high on sulfur that refining it is super hard. I don’t think we really make a dent in US imports, specially since the US has been reducing their dependency on foreign oil for decades.

He’s gonna be alright, and if he went off roading with guides, the guides probably bought a lot of fuel for an emergency anyway. Some people brought empty water tanks in the back of pickup trucks to fuel stations expecting this to take a long ass time to recover .

Good relationship? You won’t even pay for our stupid wall! :P
I will note that your president seems pretty quiet on the whole thing though.

Our foreign secretary isn’t quiet... just pretending the issue doesn’t exist.
He’s also like, a fat, young Emperor Palpatine.
